Personal Insights About Each Song

Track 1: My Savior, My God

This is the title track for a couple of reasons. I knew I wanted the cover to feature the cross in our church at Shawnee Heights and I wanted a song with a little kick to it to begin the CD. This song, a huge #1 hit on Billboard’s Christian chart for Aaron Shust in early 2006, was a perfect fit. This project is about and for Him, not me. I’m just a blessed instrument in the process. I think this song and cover design helps establish the focus for the entire project.

Track 2: Another Way To Fly

Of the five songs I wrote for this CD, this one was inspired by a friend who has since left this world for a better place. While going through cancer treatments, she gave a powerful testimony one Sunday morning how God was not through using her and that he would make a way, somehow, for her to do the work He planned for her. Though struggling physically, you could tell she was walking so closely with the Lord spiritually. That same afternoon this song came to life as I reflected on her testimony of faith.

Track 3: Everything I Need

This is a really beautiful song that was written by my dear friend Lynn Waters. The imagery is really amazing. Lynn has had a difficult road of his own the past couple of years battling back from throat cancer. He truly has one of the most incredible voices I’ve heard and it was a thrill for me to get to sing his song. Another dear friend, Michelle, from the talented duo Cook & Belle, came in and added some awesome harmony vocals to really make this song what it is.

Track 4: Borrowed Time

One of two songs that my talented musical friend from church (Robert “Bob” Bogle) set to music. Bob has a very natural bluesy, rock sound to his voice which fits this song perfectly. Some incredible background vocals are here thanks to Krystal Harris, Amy Rouse and Jerroll Lehman. This one really makes me smile every time. The important message here is don’t take for granted the time you have because none of us know how long we will be here to try and make a difference in the world we live. Each day in itself is an incredible gift!

Track 5: My Life Was Touched By You

The song that almost wasn’t, but I can’t imagine the CD without it. One of the producers, Jerroll Lehman, took my lyrics and wrote an amazing song. Jerroll is an amazing talent that not only produces, but arranges, programs, sings, writes and plays multiple instruments. Well…you get the picture--a real talent and genuine friend. This song is a reminder that we all have those people that have left a positive mark on our lives forever.

Track 6: Strength

I wrote this song several years back and it was one of the first ones I ever sang in public. We simply picked the tempo up slightly and gave it a power ballad feel. Jerroll has such an amazing knack for knowing how to make each song be the most effective. When we humble ourselves and rely on Him it is amazing the strength we indeed can find through Him to face the many challenges in our lives.

Track 7: When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder

I remember growing up singing so many of the traditional songs out of the church hymnal. I love singing those songs even today and this one has always been one of my favorites. We give it our own twist but it is still very recognizable when compared to the original version by James Black. This song is highlighted again by some amazing back ground vocal work. What a peace to know I will be on that roll someday. In fact, anyone who will accept Jesus as their personal Savior can know that they will be on that list.

Track 8: Thank You

This song is a classic that Ray Boltz recorded many years ago. Ray has always been a true inspiration of mine, both with his lyrics and music. Only God knows how many Ray has touched and influenced through his amazing music. It was a true honor for me to sing one of his classic songs. My producer, Darrell Powell, challenged me vocally on this one and captured the emotion so well. Thank You continues to be a very popular song which carries a heartfelt message of appreciation.

Track 9: Bless The Little Angels

Another original song on the CD and the second song in which Bob Bogle provides the music. This one has a little country feel to it throughout and then an amazing lead guitar to close out the song in an unconventional way. People seem to relate to this one well as it stresses the importance of little children and that we do our best to treat and raise them the way God would see fit.

Track 10: Everything To Me

I wanted to do a duet with our church music director and friend, Amy Wagner. She has a beautiful voice and has always encouraged me every step of the way. This is a song we both have always liked because of it's great message.

Track 11: Christmas Time

This was always my favorite Christmas song when I was younger. It was originally released in 1985 by Canadian superstar, Bryan Adams. My pop influence obviously shows here on this one. Given the timing of the release of the project and my love for the song I felt it would be an appropriate way to close out the CD. After all it’s not holiday time, it’s CHRISTmas time!
